I've not been in this forum before but I was told to come here from some great words of wisdom. I'm off to check out what else is in here :)

It is very true that women can abuse children in terrible ways. However, there are far more men who molest children than women and it is normal to worry about men more. I don't think this is sexism - I think it is your intuition telling you in this case that the way that the man had abused children was more likely to be a threat to YOUR children than the way that the woman misused an underaged teenager.

In any case, the best prevention is to do what you're doing - to be aware and to know WHAT your children are doing, WHERE they are going, and WHOM they are with. Here's an article about what to do if you know there's a sex offender in your neighborhood:
