Quote of the Day: "Sometimes the laughter in mothering is the recognition of the ironies and absurdities. Sometimes, though, it's just pure, unthinking delight."
— Barbara Schapiro, O Magazine, May 2003

Kids are natural comedians. And on days when I take myself way too seriously – which happens more often than I’d like – something usually happens to snap me out of it that takes me quite by surprise. Like the time I was wrestling with a very serious financial decision and a two year old Hannah found my makeup bag. Without me seeing her, she gave herself Groucho Marx style eyebrows with my mascara. She walked up to me and put a hand on my back saying, “Momma – I look like you!” When I turned to her, I had to work really hard not to fall out of my chair at the sight of my little blondie with caterpillars for eyebrows. I let her walk around like that for a good hour, as she went about her two year old business of hosting a tea party for her dolls – and then I called the salon to schedule my next brow wax.
Being around kids can be tiring and frustrating. It can take every ounce of maturity and energy you have just to get through the day....the you have to do it all over again. But on most of those days, it can also be really stinkin’ funny. Being a parent, especially of the younger set is like having your own version of America’s Funniest Home videos looping in your own living room. Enjoy them and enjoy yourself. You’ll be teaching them that life, even when it’s tough, is really filled with joy.
