I just wanted to share that I am a Free Woman. I have taken the last bit of Control that my Ex husband had over me. I decided the best thing for me and my children was to move to a better area. I went to my lawyer who at this point does things for free. I did pay him close to $20,000 before he realized his total disdain for my EX and wanted to represent me for Free.
He drew up papers stating that I can move out of the state of New York.
Everything else remained the same I have sole custody. He still gets weekend visitation once a month as long as he drops off and picks up. Being that he hasn't seen the kids in over 3 years this isn't an issue.
I honestly was scared to death going there. I wrote a note and had it in my purse. It stated where the kids were and the phone numbers to their schools, in case anything happened.
Thankfully it wasn't needed. This was the first time I was face to face with him without a court officer being in the same room. I kept my composure and stated the facts of what he needed to do. I then talked with my friend while he signed off on all 5 copies. As he signed he shook, his hands were trembling. It was seriously scary to witness. We waited for him to leave and pull out of the parking area before we left.
I am FREE he has NO Control.:flip:

Dream, that must have taken incredible courage! Good for you in taking this step and in being someone your lawyer respects so much that he was eventually willing to help you for free.

And in taking a friend with you and staying very calm in a very stressful situation with someone who hurt you so badly.

I hope you and your children find a wonderful new community to live in.
